With leaves all around this month, these multicolored ginkgos deserve the spotlight this week.

Ginkgo trees are not only beautiful, they are also considered to be living fossils. The oldest leaves were discovered as fossils from 270 million years ago. Also referred to as “maidenhair tree,” ginkgo is the last known species of the Ginkgophyta family, all others are extinct. Ginkgo seeds are used in cooking as well as medicine. Not only are ginkgo leaves beautifully shaped, they also turn a remarkable yellow color in the fall months.
